How Long Does a Kitchen Renovation Take in Portland

The most common question we get before a kitchen project starts is some version of: how long is this going to take? It's a fair question, and the honest answer is that it depends on scope, material lead times, and how early in the process decisions get made. Most kitchen renovations we handle run four to seven weeks from demo to punch-list, but the front-end planning phase adds time that homeowners don't always account for.

About

A bit more

Today, Craftwork Renovations works on kitchens, bathrooms, basements, decks, and whole-house renovation projects across the Portland metro area, including Lake Oswego, Beaverton, and Gresham. The crew is eight people, most of whom have been with the company for at least three years. Daniel still walks every job at the start and end of each week. The work is not the fastest or the cheapest in the market, and that's a deliberate choice. The goal has always been to do the kind of work that holds up, that the next owner of the house will appreciate, and that the crew is proud to put their name on.

What clients say

Daniel walked the job every Friday and called me if anything came up mid-week. The kitchen came out exactly as we'd planned, and the timeline was accurate within a few days.

— Margaret T., Sellwood homeowner

They matched the original fir trim in our 1930s house so well that our contractor friend couldn't tell which was new. That kind of attention is hard to find.

Daniel Mercer

Daniel Mercer grew up in Milwaukie, Oregon, and spent his twenties working finish carpentry on residential projects across the Portland metro area, eventually supervising crews for a mid-size general contractor in Tigard. He left in 2014 to start Craftwork Renovations with a focus on smaller, more accountable renovation work. He trained under a finish carpenter named Roy Hatch, who ran a one-man shop in Lake Oswego for thirty years and had strong opinions about the correct way to cope a baseboard joint. Daniel still copes every baseboard joint by hand. Outside the job, he restores vintage hand planes and is working through a backlog of Stanley No. 4s he picked up at an estate sale in Milwaukie two winters ago.
